    Umm, wouldn't a cross-country meet be held across the country?

    Actually, I'm pretty sure it's cross country meet. Like boys basketball game or any other sport. I mean, you wouldn't say boys-basketball game, right? Just think of it like that. It may be a matter of local style, but cross-country meet doesn't seem right to me.
     
  4. In the same vein, what's with the recent urge to write "high-school sports" in copy? Seems like it's a news side usage that has crept into more sports copy lately.
