Feds, grand jury, apparently targeting Armstrong for doping

Hamilton didn't choose the spot, the staff at Outside did. Or seemed to have, since most of the magazine's editorial staff was there. Armstrong started the day thousands of miles away.

Maybe Armstrong, having seen the ads in Outside touting Hamilton's role in the weekend, jumped a private jet to Aspen specifically hoping to see Hamilton.

Considering how small Aspen is, I'd have been shocked if they didn't bump into each other.

In the end, if there are witnesses we might learn more. Otherwise, it's just he said, he said.

The town is tiny, just a few square blocks; you see everyone and they see you. Everyone goes to Cache Cache and the two places surrounding it; you have to walk across one to get to the other. Seems incredibly plausible that these two boneheads could run into each other and have words.

    TWITTER FIGHT!

Floyd Landis is going after Armstrong on Twitter under the nom de tweet of @GreyManrod.

Yeah, the whole Manrod thing gets old pretty quick...Floyd is apparently very manic these days (he has a couple of other handles on Twitter as well)...although one evening I got into a twitter battle with him and I have to say it was pretty cool in a lame-ass way to be chatting with a TdF winner.

BTW, rumors rampant that the Grand Jury indictments will be handed down Friday July 1. Guess what starts the next day?

Which proves its nothing more than grandstanding by Novitzky, coming out with the goods at the exact time you know you'll get the most pub on a cycling-related issue.

Or, as it's turned out with others he's prosecuted, coming out with a bunch of salacious stuff that won't hold up in court but nevertheless designed to make Novitzky look like a tough guy who's saving the world from bicycle riders and baseball players.

Does Novitzky have a say in when grand jury indictments are announced? I wouldn't think so.

A lot of this stuff would have to be prosecuted in French and Italian courts, so probably two-thirds of any case the Feds come up with would be out of their jurisdiction and null and void.

Perjury is out because as far as I know, Armstrong has never testified before Congress or been deposed by any court. The Feds will try to make fraud against the government stick (for lying to the USPS about being clean to get sponsorship), but all they got right now is hearsay evidence. Enough to indict perhaps, but not near enough to convict.

And after the latest fiasco with Clemens, maybe the Justice Department will be a bit more reluctant to move.

BTW, can anyone be surprised that Lance used the code name "Number 1?"
