Feds find local reporting has waned...well, duh

    Federal investigation finds that journalists on the local level don't cover issues as they hard as they used. The reasoning? Staff cuts.

    Was this really worth a federal investigation?

    I can see what you're questioning, but it's encouraging and may make even just a few readers understand the importance of local journalism done by professional journalists.

    Then again, people paying to read The New York Times probably are more likely to understand that point.

    There are some changes in the tax code that could significantly benefit non-profit media and if this study helps get us to that end, then yes, it was worth it.
