I still have a tiny bit of faith that the smart people can, for the most part, overcome Internet dumbassery in the end.

Smart people aren't necessarily the issue. The majority -- and those in charge -- are.

Eh. I'm not convinced the Internet mob is anything more than an extremely vocal but small minority, no matter how much the media sucks up to it in its attempt to cling to relevance.

The Internet mob is indeed only a very small minority. But in part because the media sucks up to it, it can have a far larger influence on the general population, and on those in charge of various institutions. Especially if the general population and those in charge aren't necessarily members of that "smart people" group referenced earlier.

Imagine that, the police with their guns, Tasers, nighsticks, handcuffs, and pepper spray afraid of someone with a camera!

As long as you can work out the procedural, storage, and privacy concerns, cameras are a good thing. They keep everyone honest.

We've already seen several instances where cops were accused of racism, but the camera showed otherwise.

It would benefit everyone if we not only reduced the instances of cops treating minorities unfairly, and/or of police brutality, but also if we could reduce the instances of false claims of the same.

It isn't only cameras, is it? Was there video of the Ferguson incident?

Happens all the time. People (on both political extremes) choose to live an alternate reality, primarily based on the ideology on which they have staked their extreme positions.

As another example, despite video that clearly shows the S. Carolina resource cop (Ben Fields) roughing up a 16-year-old student and a departmental review that resulted in his termination, there are still clowns who insist he did no wrong.

If they can count to 20 without taking their shoes off, they're already one-up on most of the Internet lynch mob.
