Huh. I guess 40 isn't too outlandish (see: Foreman, George). Thanks, Batman.

The Dude is certainly up there
Got to have some love for Crash Davis and Andy Dufresne.

But I've got to throw Gunnery Sgt. Hartman in there too. The dude reminds me of some people I know, especially the scene when Pvt. Pyle is in the bathroom with the gun and Hartman is screaming at Pvt. Joker with a series of questions that if he stopped and looked for five seconds would know the answer to. May have had a boss who was like that at some point. And of course his opening series of insults he gives to the recruits is priceless.

Reggie Dunlop. Was there ever a doubt?

But I can list some others too, including some which have already been mentioned here - Dirty Harry Callahan, Tuco Ramirez, Jake Taylor, George Bailey, Jefferson Smith, Rocky Balboa, Sean Thornton, Philo Beddoe.....the list goes on.

I could mine at least 30 from the 30's and 40's, but will start with:

    Sam Spade/Rick Blaine/Philip Marlowe
    Nick and Nora Charles
    Hugo Z. Hackenbush/Professor Wagstaff/Rufus T. Firefly

Almost laughed out loud in the middle of the office when I read Henry's nod to Marilyn Chambers.

Pacino as Richard Roma in Glengarry Glen Ross
Another vote for Edward Norton as Worm in Rounders
    Borat Sagdiev
Joe Pesci as Nicky Santoro in Casino

And this hasn't yet stood the test of time, but I really enjoyed Jesse Eisenberg in The Social Network.

And don't forget Captain Geoffrey Spaulding, the African explorer.

Not to mention Signor Ravelli and The Professor.
