Favorite sports movie(s)

Discussion in 'Anything goes' started by Ilmago, Sep 1, 2010.

  1. Two personal favorites that I haven't seen listed:

    1. Diggstown. More of a con movie than a sports movie, but a great mix of colorful characters.

    2. All The Right Moves. Plenty of teenage angst combined with the passion of high school football.

I'll go with Hoosiers - you have an underdog story, a story of redemption, the father-son thing, coach under pressure standing up for his convictions. Classic stuff.
Baseball - Major League and the Bad News Bears
Golf - Aside from Caddyshack - Dead Solid Perfect with Randy Quaid (though I also dug Tin Cup).
Football - The Longest Yard (orig.) edging out North Dallas Forty.
    Hockey - Slap Shot

    Special mention - Breaking Away

Stud: See, the key to being an ace lover is to make 'em see flashing lights. When you're really good, they get all these fireworks going off in their head.

    Weeks: Wh ...

Stud: Don't ask me why. They just do.

Weeks: (After contemplating Stud's advice) Flashing lights and fireworks, huh?

    Stud: Yeah.

    Weeks: That's good to know.

    Stud: Absolutely essential!

Chef during a live baseball broadcast: "The field umpire is just standing there, not moving. He looks asleep."

kingcreole: "This guy here is dead!"

(Chef rips off his headset, turns down the volume and begins laughing uncontrollably. At least 20 seconds pass before he gets back on the air.)

Chef - "Sorry folks, had a little technical problem there."

well, when someone hits a pissrod right over this old guy's head, and the son of a bitch never even flinched......

i have laughed and giggled on the radio a million times before, but for a little bit there i lost it.

didnt help that you and dilrod kept laughing uncontrollably either, you bastards!

30 years from now, the three of us will still laugh whenever we see each other.

  11. I'd put the recent Invictus up there in my top 5.

I saw a documentary about the team and the movie pretty much nailed it.
