A Royal Crown from 1985 may be my favorite.

Just looked at that one, Mizzou. Nice one for Royals fans.

No caption on that one, either, FYI.

Also considering throwing a Swimsuit cover in there, but I'm not sure I want to take away from a good sports cover.

The one about the toughest coach there ever was by Deford. A leather helmet, an old black and white picture, a football, a paper with handwriting on it and the cover line "An American Tragedy."

Interestingly enough, that cover is not available through SI.com. Wonder why?

My favorite is the Michigan cover with Woodson knocking David Boston on his ass

That's my fondest sports memory as a kid and that series was one of the most unbelievable things I have ever seen. I still have that cover framed by my desk.

As a 9-year-old kid, this one just struck me and always will . . .

And my favorite in discussions about how wonderful SI used to be . . .

I've wanted to start a thread about things I used to love about SI that it doesn't have anymore. I've picked it up quite a bit recently after barely reading it the last two years and it's become highly mediocre, which is unfortunate.

It wasn't. The only person who made contact with him on the touchdown run was cornerback Don McNeal, who he stiff armed to the ground in the backfield.
