Wasn't there a couple of different openings to the Lumberjack Song? I have an mp3 of it with Palin being a weatherman.

And I second the diaries book. Some of it gets a little dull, but it's interesting to see all the undercurrents of what was happening with the Pythons.

I think they changed it up for some of the live shows, so it would be a surprise when the Mounties appeared.

I actually have the entire Flying Circus box set, which is 30 or 40 DVDs. It's great to rewatch all that stuff.

In fact, GB, you were sitting right next to it in my living room!

i bought a supposedly complete set but only with like a dozen DVDs; really 30 or 40?

Wasn't Palin Michael in the Bruces sketch?
Michael Baldwin, Bruce; Michael Baldwin, Bruce; Michael Baldwin, Bruce.

    Is your name not Bruce?

    No, it's Michael.

That's going to cause a bit of confusion. Mind if we call you Bruce to keep it clear?

He was also great as the man who wanted government money to work on his silly walk.

The thing is, the barbershop skit is a fantastic skit, but it gets overshadowed because the Lumberjack Song comes straight after it.

But that's the beauty of Python, it was all so good, and so fresh, that it came at you in this giant wave. Unrelenting in its brilliance.

Thought a bloody barber sketch led into the lumberjack song . . . .

Guess I'll just have to check the DVDs.

    Actually it's 16 discs. It's this one: http://tinyurl.com/5p2px5

I'm on the road and didn't have mine handy. Sure seems bigger than that in my mind.

My favorite sketch of 'em all. "Don't say the kid's name, Vic!"

Palin also did a bang-up job as Gervaise Brook-Hampster in the "Upper Class Twit of the Year" sketch, along with Deja Vu.
