When Pete Townsend transitions (windmills) from the soon-be-home section to the dang-dang-dang-dang section of A Quick One from Rock 'n Roll Circus.

At 4:37 in this video. Townsend hits it again at 6:26 and repeats it a few times more.

    To die for.

Here's video. Audio is seemingly slowed down a bit, but for my money, it might be the greatest moment in rock.

I would go with The Who's The Seeker.

I forgot the thread title specified guitars. Thanks for the correction.

"Take Me Out" by Franz Ferdinand has one of my favorite guitar riffs. This site really needs YouTube embeds.

    That's about solos, though.

Yeah, but don't a lot of solos include great riffs? I thought it was cool either way.

I always thought the internationally recognized best guitar riff was Satisfaction.

Going to throw some out there:

Opening of "What I like about You" by the Romantics.
    Zappa's "San Bernadino"
    Television's Marquee Moon.
    Rainbow's "Since You Been Gone"
    Neil Young's "Walk On"
