    Any he doesn't sing.

I think I'm going to go for "Tangled Up In Blue" or "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" with "Like A Rolling Stone" third.

As for covers of Dylan tunes: "All Along The Watchtower by Jimi Hendrix and "Blowin' In The Wind" by Peter, Paul and Mary.

"Early one morning the sun was shining; I was laying in bed.
Wondering if she'd changed at all, if her hair was still red."

After Tangled Up in Blue, Simple Twist of Fate and Knockin' on Heaven's Door, there's my favorite version of "Girl from the North Country," done as a duet with Johnny Cash.

    You mean this one?

  5. First time I heard it, the line that nailed me to the wall was:

"Some are mathematicians/Some are carpenter's wives."

    Goddamn.

Met Ruben Carter once at a Canadian Boxing Hall of Fame dinner. Intense dude (obviously) with the strongest handshake of anyone I've ever met.

    "positively 4th street"
    "tangled up in blue"

all other usual suspects tied for third

Ya know, Estreet, the version I have is very slightly different -- Johnny asks if her hair is "hanging down" instead of "hanging long." This was great, though, and thanks for finding it.
Not to thread jack, but a while back we had a topic on which somebody remarked about right-wingers on a talk show throwing around the phrase "a great American." Well, bleep them, John R. Cash was a great American.

    Sirs, Madames,

    1. Visions of Johanna ("it sure takes a lot of gall/to be so useless and all" ... sigh)
    2. It's All Over Now, Baby Blue
    3. It's Alright Ma ...
    4. Idiot Wind
    5. Masters of War

Like a Rolling Stone, of course, would be on any list ... it's just sorta played to death.

    It's like Satisfaction.

Even after 1,000 listenings it doesn't get old.

    Mr R,

I hit 1,000 of LaRS about the time I had a last row gray for Rolling Thunder. 10,000 in a lifetime (they play it as part of the daily a.m. loop at the coffee shop in my 'hood, so it's over 1,000 in the last four years alone).
