Bull Durham and The Natural. Roy Hobbs still gets me.

Surely you kid. I liked Back to the Minors, but it doesn't hold a candle to most baseball movies.

I think (hope) it was a joke, mike.

Yeah, Bingo Long was terrific. Billy Dee Williams, James Earl Jones and Richard Pryor.

    I recommend the book also.

I'm a sucker for sappy movies, but not a sucker for sappy baseball movies, apparently. Field of Dreams and The Natural just don't do much for me.

That's why I like Major League more. A good mix of baseball and comedy.

    And Uecker, of course.

Wonderful to see Long Gone getting some love. I'm always surprised when somebody else remembers it.

Yes, it was one of the first movies made for HBO, so it was never in the theaters.

William Peterson was outstanding in that movie. Very funny movie with some wonderful serious moments....the entire team chasing off the KKK when the white-hooded ones came for the team's black catcher....Stud Cantrell (Peterson) having to release an aging player (Peaches, I think).

Since 1994, I have always had at least one fantasy baseball team called the Tampico Stogies.

Long Gone is third on my list behind Bull Durham and Major League.

The director's cut of "The Natural." No corny "Good by Mr. Spaulding" voiceover, more fleshing out of Hobbs and his relationship with Iris when they were young.

No love for "The Slugger's Wife?"

I was in attendance for that piece. Absolutely entertaining.

    Bull Durham.

    Major League a close second.

(Somewhere, I've made this exact post before.)

They had Stud Cantrell with his mighty, mighty bat, and Jamie Don Weekes with some real good stats. And don't forget Jose Brown, the Venezuelan catcher! God, I loved that movie as a kid.
