    So much for no explanations, but I'm going to break that one, too.

    Mario Lemieux. Adversity? The guy beat cancer during his career. Impact? Many believe he saved the Pittsburgh Penguins twice, with his arrival and when he bought the team. But mostly it was a joy to watch somebody that good play for my favorite team. At his best, nobody was better.

    Ron Bloomberg, the first Jewish pro athlete I knew as a child. Followed by Dave DeBusschere and Fran Tarkenton.

    I learned about sport as a kid in the late 60's-early 70's the NY area
