The Chippewas put 48,000 in the stands once at Ford Field. It pays to be the best team in the state.

They won't break 20,000 unless they totally paper the house.

Anybody who buys a Big Mac in the next 4 days in Michigan is likely to find 4 football tickets in the burger box.

Yep, buy a ticket, get a house in Detroit for free.

There are plenty of people who think it's a great use of public money because it puts people to work. IMHO, public works projects shouldn't be based on whether we are in a recession, but should be based on a wise use of tax dollars.

You can't spell Florida Atlantic University without the Who the Fuck Cares?

Well, yes, you can, but no one cares about that either.

Chippewa fans could drive to the game and still get home by midnight. BIG difference.

Is this sort of like Indiana's "home" game in D.C. against Penn State later this season?

No, because 70,000 PSU fans will flock to that one.

You all are a trip. Florida Atlantic University is taking big strides since it joined Division IA a few years ago. We have a very competitive team for the caliber of teams we play (which isn't so bad for a new team, or any team for that matter), and are steadily reaching a higher level, year by year. And also, Howard Schnellenberger cares, therefore you should too :D And if you aren't aware of who he is, you probably shouldn't be on this website or covering sports.

On the business/economics side, this actually is a good move. It gets more people into higher education, offers more permanent as well as tons of temporary jobs, and all-in-all helps to boost a local economy. It's also mixing more outsiders into a town full of the richest people in the United States. Maybe that will raise awareness that their private island towers shouldn't be taken for granted, and maybe the super rich will start helping more.

Be wary of FAU coming to stomp your teams in the coming years.... because I'll be on this site and I'll be sure to remember this thread! (that last part's a joke)

Or any number of SWAC "classic" games in places like Chicago, St. Louis and Detroit.

So does FAU football rank last or next-to-last (ahead of FIU, I guess) in terms of relevance among Miami-area sports teams?

OK, maybe that was unfair. The Owls are probably more relevant than the Marlins ...
