    Biggest waste of time in the judicial system is a restraining order.
     
  5. Only if the person is intent on killing you. If he only wants to smack you around for a bit, or ask for forgiveness, you can get him locked up for a little bit for violating the order. And then he'll want to kill you.

    Hell, she could be down at the station urging them not to press charges anytime. Oh wait - most states are on to that game now and prevent it.
     
  7. You're sort of right.

    Most states now require officers to lock someone up for the night if there's evidence of criminal domestic violence - whether the victim wants to file charges or not. Still, most of those cases don't get prosecuted if the victim chooses not to testify.

    I'm not sure if he's an asshole. everyone makes some mistakes and once the problems start spiraling, it's tough to recover.
