I like Comcast at the moment ... for $4 a month, I get the NFL Network via the sports tier package, so I'll be able to watch the Patriots-Giants on my other day off Saturday.

Comcast blows. The nonsense they pulled last summer where they took away NFL Network and put it on the bullshit sports tier pissed me off to no end.

I was a bitter, bitter man when I realized I couldn't install DIRECTV in my new place.

Maybe this is opening up what should be its own thread, and maybe I'm the only one who feels this way, but why the fuck should the NFL Network be on basic cable?

What, exactly, does it offer ... outside of six live NFL games? A grand total of two of which were worth a shit this year? Oh, and a bowl game or two that nobody outside of the teams playing in them will give two shits about.

And, FWIW, I just added the Comcast sports tier. Will run me 99 cents a month for two months and then $5 a month after that.

Answer: It shouldn't. But when you get the greedheads who run the cable companies going against the moneygrubbers who run the Big ten NFL, we're all loosers.

I don't know how they did it where you live, but Comcast included NFL Network on digital cable for a few years here. It was not on basic cable. Then last summer, the jackals decided to move NFL Network to the sports tier and charge us extra for something that was previously included in our gigantic monthly bill.

So F them. I can get four MTV channels on the base digital package, but no NFL Network? Tell me that makes sense.

I have Comcast for internet and phone, and other than the price, I haven't had an issue with them. As for TV, I can't lobby for Dish Network enough.

Yeah, I got NFL Network for free the first year and then they took it away (moved it to the sports tier) this year. And you know what? I've regretted not having it a grand total of one day all year (Green Bay at Dallas). The other howeverthemany days I've not given one thought about it.

Does it suck if you're a New England fan? Yeah. But you know what? That's why (insert deity here) invented: teh interweb, sports bars, satellite TV and all the myriad ways to watch a game you can't miss.

If I recall correctly, now that the network carries games, the NFL is charging the cable companies huge money to carry NFLN -- I think I read that it costs the cable companies more than any channel except HBO. The league is the bad guy for bending the cable companies over and forcing them to pass the cost on to us.

Were you able to watch such games at home before NFL Network? In most cases, no.

In most cases, it seems people are asking for something they didn't used to get and not wanting to pay extra for it. I can't blame NFL for doing this.

/hurrying to wash myself for defending the NFL and Cable TV.

Or you can flip on CBS and NBC. A bit of a D_B here...

NEW YORK (AP) — The New England Patriots’ shot at history Saturday night will be available for every household in the country with a television after months of wrangling.
The game against the New York Giants, in which the Patriots could become the first NFL team to go 16-0 in the regular season, was originally scheduled to be shown only on the NFL Network, which is available in fewer than 40 percent of the nation’s homes with TVs.
But the league announced Wednesday that the NFL Network feed will be simulcast on NBC and CBS. It’s a major concession by league officials, who repeatedly said they would not show the game anywhere but the NFL Network. The NFL had faced mounting pressure from politicians in recent weeks to make the game available to more viewers.
This will be the first three-network simulcast in NFL history and the first simulcast of any kind of an NFL game since the first Super Bowl in 1967, when CBS and NBC both televised the first meeting of the champions of the newly merged National Football League and American Football League.
“We have taken this extraordinary step because it is in the best interest of our fans,” commissioner Roger Goodell said. “What we have seen for the past year is a very strong consumer demand for NFL Network. We appreciate CBS and NBC delivering the NFL Network telecast on Saturday night to the broad audience that deserves to see this potentially historic game. Our commitment to the NFL Network is stronger than ever.”
