Surprised they even decided to hire a new one.

How long before Deadspin turns on him?

I still say Le Anne Schreiber did a great job in the post.

You could tell Deadspin was foaming at the mouth.

"He'll kick ESPN's ass when he has to, and he'll do it brilliantly."

Deadspin should hire an ombudsman. It would be entertaining to read and offer some accountability.

Maybe SportsJournalists.com can create a task force to be Deadspin's official ombudsgroup.

  5. Lipsyte is a fantastic choice. I wish this move would have happened a long time ago.

Lipsyte will write about problems, ESPN will shrug and go on doing what it does.

This. But if he can pull them from the teats that are Kobe's and LeBron's Twitter accounts ...

Bob Lipsyte: I asked ESPN management whether it intended for Skip Bayless to teabag Stephen A. Smith during a recent telecast of First Take. Josh Krulewitz responded.

Krulewitz: Skip Bayless is one of the most prolific, respected commentators in sports media. And we are committed to making First Take one of the most provocative sports commentary shows in the US. While we may not agree with Mr. Bayless' choice to place his genitals on Mr. Smith's forehead, we stand behind Mr. Bayless' commitment to the show.

Nobody has done a "good job" in this tits-on-a-warthog position. Nobody can. It's all window dressing.

Mainly the ombudsman wrings his/her hands over trivial bullshit, offering ceremonial self-flagellation, while nothing is ever done about the WWL's monotonously flagrant violations of actual journalistic standards.

Unless the ombudsman has real power to effect serious (even dramatic) change in the way they operate, the position is a fraud.
