The Detroit economy still has not recovered the Shock bailing.

    Women's soccer is not good.

I can imagine a market for women's softball because it is so different from what MLB has developed into, but fans would be real small ball types.

    Small ball, and large thighs.

Lol. Yes, it "turned" to that strategy in about 2005.

As my daughter's dream isn't to be a professional basketball player. It's to be a veterinarian or... wait for it... a sports anchor. (This fall, she's tagging along with me on Fridays and Saturdays when I handle extra sports duties).

I say this constantly on WNBA or women's soccer. Female sports fans have to show up and support. They can't get all excited every four years at the World Cup or during the Olympics.

It's about buying season tickets and showing up on Monday nights for a Shock-Mercury game instead of staying home and gossiping over the Bachelor on Pinterest.

Eh, I get annoyed at the "female sports fans" have to show up and support line, because as a woman, I have zero interested in the WNBA or women's soccer leagues. Just because I am a woman who likes sports shouldn't make me beholden to the success of those leagues, and is not my fault if they fail. Along those lines, when the XFL or men's sports leagues fail (and the unaffiliated and semi-pro ones do a lot, as we all know), it's not male fans fault. There just wasn't a big enough market for them for be self-sustaining.

I'd rather watch Florida and Auburn play checkers than watch a WNBA game.

They would cheat at those, too.

Maybe she'll learn that after earning a scholarship to play at Wharton.

Or, she could learn about free market realities in one night.
