ESPN.com "hyper local" expanding to Dallas, LA, NY

    I'm not even sure New York will be such a tough market anymore. With the Northeast consortium it's just a matter of time until there are a handful of writers left even on the major beats. Fewer who travel.

    I'd exclude baseball from that equation, possibly Giants, but look at the Knicks, Jets, Devils, Nets and Rangers. Even college basketball or recruiting. There is an opportunity of ESPN if they can break news and blog.

    The analogy to The National is spot on. And with the web, you can roll out cities as you're ready - a "soft" opening as opposed to a "hard" opening.
