ESPN Chicago Part-time Editor

    This position is located in Chicago.

    Responsible for planning, editing and maintenance of ESPNChicago.com’s home page. On a daily basis (Friday – Monday), assess content available from a variety of sources (includes copy from wire services, partners, ESPN staffers, freelancers, plus interactive elements, audio and video) to determine how it fits into our daily news coverage and programming needs. Must produce weekly budget plans. Writes all front page copy, builds carousel packages and headlines. Selects all art, including photos, audio and video. Works with advertising department and promotional group to fill their spots on the home page.

    Essential Functions:


    Must have understanding and appreciation of Chicago news and story play. Must be excellent headline writer and be able to present and tell stories in a tight space. Must show good judgment in prioritizing and selecting online content from a variety of sources. Must possess background or quickly become competent in HTML. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, and work well with a variety of people in an office setting.

    Qualifications:


    Prefer a BS/BA degree in communication arts, journalism or new media or equivalent combination of education experience. Required 3-5 years experience in editorial assignments for traditional or new media. Experience in online media content preparation required. Must be able to edit and plan editorial content for the world’s most popular sports website. Previous experience as a key decision-maker in a newsroom is a plus.

    2) It's under 75 hours a week.

    I thought they had a hiring freeze until 2010?
     
  8. Well if they're not offering benefits, it's just like hiring a glorified stringer, so from a management standpoint this position probably doesn't count as a hire. That's why it's a part-time position even though it's full-time hours.
