It appears ESPN said, "thanks, Erin. Best of luck. We have a 26-year-old blonde on staff who can do what you did."

    Yes. Samantha is 26.

How long before everyone hates her for being pretty and having a good job?

When/if she tells everyone she is pretty, has a good job, and seeks out publicity at every opportunity.

I have no idea how Holly Rowe got passed over for this. None.

And somewhere there's a 19-year-old attractive blonde majoring in broadcast journalism who will eventually replace Steele.

Don't worry - she'll just lay an elbow into Steele's ribs and move into the spot just before they go live in opening weekend.

The idea that the 19-year-old is in a broadcast journalism program at the moment is a scenario I remain hopeful, but also somewhat skeptical, of.

My high school journalism program has 71 students (out of a student body of just over 1,000) registered for this fall -- a number that has more than doubled in two years.

A handful go on to journalism. I'll be honest with them -- if you've got the profile for TV, male or female, I'll steer them in the direction of broadcast because I know that's 90% of the battle (and what kept me away from any TV job :) ).
