    The Canadian Record

The Canadian Record, an award-winning weekly newspaper in the Texas Panhandle, is seeking a full-time sports editor who is committed to covering local high school sports and community events. Chief responsibilities involve reporting and photographing sports activities and laying out the weekly sports section.

The ideal candidate will produce sharp, engaging sports pages, concise writing, and have a passion for sharing the personal stories of local athletes and coaches. The coverage is centered around the Class 2A Canadian High School athletic program, which produced state championships in football, basketball and track over the last year. The Canadian Wildcats also generated at least one state qualifier in every other sport throughout the 2014-15 school year–cross country, golf and tennis.

The reporter will also share responsibility with other staff to cover special events and is encouraged to write feature stories on community personalities. The Record staff is friendly, supportive and hard-working. We are looking for someone who shares our long-standing commitment to quality community journalism. Experience with Photoshop and InDesign is a plus.

Send resume, writing samples and layout clips to editor/publisher Laurie Ezzell Brown at laurie@canadianrecord.com or mail to The Canadian Record, PO Box 898, Canadian, TX.
