Elvis is dead and I don't feel so good myself

    The day Babe Ruth retired from baseball in 1935, America's population was half what it is today. Of course, grandfathers alive at the time passed his legend on to grandsons, as mine did, but none of us saw him doff his cap to the crowd rounding third base.

    On the other hand, Elvis Presley was still alive when I was old enough to remember, and I'll wager he had more female fans than Babe Ruth did.

    Yeah, but I love the energy of Elvis's version.
