And a knack for bullying her way into the writing credits and publishing.

So the story goes that Elvis wanted to record I Will Always Love You, which Dolly Parton wrote. However, Col. Tom Parker said that if Elvis recorded it, he would be listed as a songwriter, and Dolly turned him down. And, as we know, it became a huge hit when Whitney Houston recorded it, and Dolly got to keep all the songwriting money.

Dolly also sang it and it was a country hit in the early 1980s (I think it was on the “Best Little Whorehouse” soundtrack). So Dolly, um, doubled up.

I know a guy who always references Dolly Parton lying on her back when we drive past San Onofre.

I'd play along, but I don't know five Madonna songs.

Got in the car today and Elvis' Suspicious Minds was on the radio, and it jogged a memory.

When my younger sister got married 25 or so years ago, her husband-to-be wanted that song to be played as they walked up the aisle at the conclusion of the ceremony, just because of the opening lyrics: "We're caught in a trap/I can't walk out."

Yes, maybe his best song, IMHO. Eddie Rabbit wrote it, right?
