Elvis died on this day 31 years ago, and Madonna was born on this day 50 years ago.

What are you top 5 Elvis songs and your top 5 Madonna songs?

My favorite dog as a kid, Friendly, died on the same day as Elvis (although we didn't find out about it until a week later -- we were out of town on vacation and had boarded him at a kennel, and in the pre-cell phone days, when you were out of town, you were out of town. He was about 18 years old and getting sickly, so it was his time, but still quite a shock to get when you come home from vacation).

I guess Heaven needed both the King and a golden retriever/dachshund mutt mix. ;)

Enjoyed that.

So this is the year of the 50s: Madonna, Prince, Michael Jackson, Belinda Carlisle (tomorrow).

So in the spirit of the thread, what are your top 5 Babe Ruth home runs?

As to the actual question:

Elvis:
--Stuck on You
--Return to Sender
--Burning Love
--Blue Christmas
--Suspicion (OK, it's by Terry Stafford, but it's the best song Elvis never made)

Madonna
--Burning Up
--Live to Tell
--Material Girl
--Ray of Light
--Papa Don't Preach

Ooh, good one.

- At Fayetteville, N.C., March 7, 1914 (first professional homer)

- * Vs. Cleveland, July 8, 1918 (10th-innning walkoff HR into RF stands ruled as a triple because of rules at the time; he gained it back in 1968, then lost it again in 1969)

- At Detroit, July 18, 1921 (said to be the longest home run ever hit, in Bill Jenkinson's book; about 575 feet out of Navin Field)

- Vs. Washington, Sept. 30, 1927 (No. 60 -- after which Babe crowed, "Let's see some other son of a bitch try to top that!" :D)

- At Pittsburgh, May 25, 1935 (No. 714, a monster blast that cleared Forbes Field, off Guy Bush, who tipped his cap as Babe rounded the bases)

Honorable mention: at New York, May 6, 1915 (first of 714 major league homers)

Is this an end around directed at the recent ban on the "pick (whomever's) best songs" threads?
