He had been doing some freelance:

Steve Elling has just been hired as the full-time golf writer for CBS SportsLine.com

This is a good move for both parties involved.

I'm happy for Steve because while he can be a prick at times (and I actually like him), I think he deserved to be treated better than he was by the Orlando management.

And it's good for Sportsline because Steve is a really good writer and reporter.

Think some humility might be in order from him, now that he's been rescued?

I have never known anybody who can take a mundane topic and make it entertaining quick like Steve Elling. Day-to-day beat maintenance stuff, which most of us simply get done with as a necessary evil, can shine when done by Elling. I'm very pleased for him. They have made a terrific hire.

    Excellent hire.
And, again, he didn't hide the situation from his immediate supervisor. He was hosed in Orlando.

Elling's good people. Better people than Sportsline, frankly. Glad to see him back writing.

    right. off with their heads!
    one mistake - death penalty.
we don't mess with absurdities like redemption, compassion and forgiveness. we're not human, after all. one mistake is one too many.
    off with their heads!
unemployment and homelessness is too good for them.

A brilliant, well-reasoned hire and another reason to log onto CBS Sportsline.

    Can Steve be difficult? Absolutely.

Does he suffer fools? Not at all.

Is he an effective reporter, talented writer and individual who will make his outlet better because of his work? Unquestionably.
