Elizabeth Dole dusts off, rewrites Bob's old script

Discussion in 'Anything goes' started by Pete Roses Bookie, Nov 5, 2006.

  1. Elizabeth Dole says Democrats "would be content with losing in Iraq." In 1976, when Bob Dole was running for vice-president he said "All the wars of the 20th Century have been Democrat wars" during a debate in Houston. Make up your minds, Doles.

I thought she dusted off one of his old ED commercial scripts.

I honestly thought Russert was going to have to be very rude to her this morning on MTP.

    Would. Not. Shut. Up.

I barely watched any of MTP this morning. All he was going to get was talking points, no matter which one of the four was talking. Giving the canned platitudes is their job, giving optimism -- even in races they know full well they won't win -- is their job. I thought Russert's CNBC show with Rothenberg, Cook and Todd was much more enlightening than the Four Clowns.

    Agreed.

The pollsters really predicted doom for the Republicans.

Not that that was why I liked it. ;)

Liddy Dole embarrassed herself with all that henpecking today. I'd be surprised if moderates in Montana and Virginia voted to keep her party in power.

I'd love to be the genius who can tell you why the pollsters/pundits were wrong, but I can't. I think the wave is coming.

National Journal had a very interesting article talking about how the moderate GOPers will lose. A lot of the moderates (think Shays/Leach/etc.) represent moderate-to-liberal districts that are demographically aligned to be represented by Democrats. Incumbency has kept these moderates in office, but now they are incumbents with an R after their name, so they have a double whammy. The same thing happened to some Dems in 1994. Guys like Dan Glickman had used incumbency to keep winning in a district that was demographically Republican. If the wave hits, there are going to be some fluke elections where the GOP will easily come back in 2008 and retake the district. But there are going to be some districts where the GOP will struggle to compete for the foreseeable future.

I sooooo wanted Russert to nail her at one point. She's railing against the Michigan governor, said her policies were bloody stoopid or something very much like it... and I wanted Russert to ask for those policies specifically. You would have seen about 10 seconds of Dole sputtering because I guarantee you she has no fucking idea what those policies are. Just spouting the party line.

Agreed. I really liked the CNBC show this week. I wish at some point he just told Liddy Dole to shut the fuck up though. She ruined the whole show. The point is to have back-and-forth, not to listen to her the whole time.
