    Perhaps ... but the wording of that indicates a prejudice toward copy editors which may not be accurate.

    I go out looking for help on "enterprise" stories. I know a couple of news-side editors at my current paper who are pretty good at going over stories and finding holes while still being cognizant of my fragile ego. ::) Usually all it takes to get special attention is to finish the story a couple of days early and e-mail it around. It's much easier to rewrite or restructure a story -- or sometimes do additional reporting -- without deadline pressure.

    Unfortunately, I haven't really found anyone who will sit with me and line-edit a piece since my first stop quite a few years ago, and then only rarely. I think that made my writing a lot better, and I miss it.
