HOOP, a bimonthly national basketball magazine, is looking for an energetic and eager Editorial Assistant. The candidate should be knowledgeable in basketball, but more importantly be a smart thinker with strong copy-editing and proofreading skills, possess good organizational skills and be willing to wear a number of hats.

    The job will specifically entail:
    Proofreading copy
    Research and fact-checking
    Tracking photos and artwork
Researching and writing small sections and sidebars in magazine
Occasional reporting at basketball games and media events

The position will also require providing occasional editorial support to other sports publications on an as-needed basis.

This is an entry-level position, but it will offer a great opportunity to learn different aspects of magazine publishing. It is imperative that the candidate demonstrate an ability to cooperatively work within a small team and be willing to play the role of “Tayshaun Prince.” “Kobe Bryants” need not apply.

A college degree is required, preferably in English. Proficiency in Word and Excel is a must. A background in sports and/or a familiarity with QuarkXPress is a plus.

This is a full-time position offering an excellent health/dental insurance package.

To apply, please forward your résumé, cover letter (with salary expectations) and any writing clips to hoop@pspsports.com with “Editorial Assistant” in the subject line. (résumé and writing clips should be in the form of URLs or PDFs)

No phone calls or faxes please.

Only prospective candidates will be contacted.

Did Hoop write that? Isn't it an NBA publication? Pretty awkward to rip Kobe like that.

Yes, it is an NBA publication... Actually a PSP publication, which they do for the NBA... They didn't rip Kobe. The idea was that you have to be content being a supporting player (Prince) and not the star (Bryant).

    I think it's funny personally.

Does that mean they're looking for people who think Andrew Bynum has talent?
