    About US Lacrosse

    US Lacrosse, a 501(c) (3) nonprofit association, is the national governing body of lacrosse. The organization has nearly 350,000 individual members within 62 regional chapters throughout the country and employs a national staff of 65 at its Baltimore headquarters. US Lacrosse provides a leadership role in virtually every aspect of the sport throughout the United States, and offers numerous programs and services to its national membership and more than one million lacrosse enthusiasts throughout the country.

    General Description

    Leads the effort of the organization’s flagship publication to tell the story of US Lacrosse’s impact on the sport through its programs, initiatives and activities, and capture the spirit of the sport by covering all levels of the game. The full-color magazine is produced monthly and delivered to the nearly 350,000 members of US Lacrosse.

    Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

    Provide the vision for the magazine to serve its two primary purposes - telling the US Lacrosse story while communicating the value the USL brings to it constituents and promoting the sport
    Conceive engaging content packages and story ideas
    Closely follow the sport to stay current on trends and issues in the game and position the magazine as the leading voice on these issues
    Supervise two-full time writers and work closely with art director, freelance photographers and writers, and other staff members that contribute to the publication.
    Write compelling stories that connect with our members
    Work closely with the editor of Lacrosse Magazine Online to cross-promote the content in the print and online versions of the magazine.
    Meet regularly with USL staff to plan upcoming issues and communicate editorial calendar on a regular basis
    Meet production deadlines to assure timely delivery of the magazine
    Serve as primary liaison with magazine printer
    Some travel required; attend and support US Lacrosse programs and special events as needed
    Other duties as assigned
    Required Skills, Education and Experience:

    Bachelor's degree
    Strong writing, editing and communications skills
    2-4 years experience as lead editor for a monthly/weekly/daily publication or web site
    Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects
    Strong creative inclination with a proven ability to bring out the best in a magazine or publication staff
    An eye for compelling yet purposeful art direction
    A passion for bringing people’s stories to life
    Strong computer skills (proficiency in InDesign is required and knowledge of related Creative Suites products is desired)
    Familiarity with the sport
