My pal, former colleague and even former co-writer, Charles P. Pierce.

Assuming there wasn't a female guest editor the last few years that would make just one -- Jane Leavy -- in 28 years.

    Probably just a coincidence.

The last three were Wright Thompson, Rick Telander and Howard Bryant

For next year I'd recommend Jackie MacMullan, Elizabeth Merrill, Bonnie Ford, Christine Brennan, Sally Jenkins, Christine Kahrl, Laura Hillenbrand, Lisa Olsen or Jemele Hill.

    Mina Kimes. Eva Holland.

    Blair Braverman.

    Jia Tolentino.

Considering how far from "sports" they stretch for editors - there really is no limit. Susan Casey, Susan Orlean - how was Joyce Carol Oates never an editor? Stunned Brennan nor Jenkins have gotten the nod.

Agree on Oates. She'd be great.

Not to fault your valid overall point here, but Jackie MacMullan was supposed to be this year's editor but pulled out recently because of unspecified health reasons. It seems based on her statement like she's in line to take over 2020 instead.

It was slated to be Jackie MacMullan this year, but she had to decline late.

I want to say it was announced on around January 29th that Jackie had to back out.

They couldn't have gone to the next woman on the list instead of rushing back to fill the void with a penis?
