    The Role:
    Morning Consult is hiring an editor to help shape coverage of its sports, entertainment and brands verticals. We’re looking for an energetic and entrepreneurial individual who has strong news judgment and a deep understanding of the communications and marketing industries in the sports, entertainment and brands sectors. You will work closely with the senior editor in charge of these verticals to help reporters in each beat produce stories, often incorporating Morning Consult’s proprietary survey search data, that will inform our audience’s business strategy.

    The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented and enthusiastic about making stories better, not just by correcting errors but also by suggesting additional reporting or new angles when necessary. We’re not looking for a proofreader -- we want someone who will actively collaborate with the reporters to produce insightful stories about business and consumer trends. Business or data journalism experience would be a major plus.

    Most of all, ideal candidates will be able to put themselves in the shoes of Morning Consult’s audience of communications, marketing and media leaders to strategically identify and synthesize the news topics critical to industry executives.

    This job requires early morning work from home and is based in New York City.

    Key Responsibilities:
    • Edit and distribute newsletters every morning
    • Edit and publish stories about consumer trends that use Morning Consult’s proprietary survey research that help communications and marketing professionals better understand these trends and gain a competitive advantage
    • Fill in for the reporters on the morning newsletters when needed
    • Help create and edit compelling data analyses and visualizations using Morning Consult’s proprietary survey research
    • Stay up to date on industry trends and their effect on business strategy
    • Continuously improve through feedback
    • Contribute to other division-specific strategic projects as necessary
    • Perform such other tasks and duties as may be required or assigned from time to time at the company’s discretion
    Desired Skills:
    • 5+ years of experience as an editor or reporter covering the communications or marketing industries
    • Have deep understanding of the communications and marketing industries in one or more verticals, the key players and the trends and information that matter most to improving business strategies
    • Experience analyzing consumer trends and data and can succinctly synthesize why it matters to communications and marketing professionals
    • Excellent writing and editing skills
    • Ability to manage multiple projects independently while paying strict attention to detail
    • Excellent computer skills and a willingness to learn advanced technical tools
    • Experience working with survey research/polling data is a plus
    • Prior experience in editing or writing stories about sports business is also a plus
