Duke LAX accuser, Crystal Mangum, found guilty of murder

The sentencing system here is strange. Some things you'd think would get long sentences (like second-degree murder) don't necessarily, while other things do.

She's got about 20 months credit for time she served in the Durham jail pre-trial. That comes off the top. Prisoners here start out with their max sentence and have the opportunity to earn their way down to the minimum. It's not easy to get the "earn time," as they call it, but I imagine she'll get some. I'd expect she'll serve at least 14 more years on top of the nearly 2 she's done.

There's certainly nothing in her past to indicate she'd be anything but a model prisoner...
