    From WRAL:

The case has been pretty fascinating for all the crazy that has come out.

    18 years, tops, for murder?

Anyone else see the irony that the poor guy spent 10 days at the Duke hospital before he died?

Well if he'd have gone to Durham Regional he might not have lasted the 10 days.

Seriously though, if you live in Durham and have been anything but perfectly healthy you've likely been treated at Duke. Doesn't really matter if the woman who stabbed you had an incident with the lacrosse team.

Don't you mean Duke Regional? They re-branded it.

That's the standard range for someone with her criminal record for second-degree murder in N.C. First-degree would have meant life. Eighteen years is also more than she would have had with manslaughter, which is what a lot of people thought the case would come out as. Voluntary manslaughter would have landed her a max of six years and a minimum just under five.

I guess "cray-cray" is not a legally recognized defense in North Carolina?

She was found to be competent to stand trial when they evaluated her.

Forgot about that. Happened after we moved.

I figured the judge was going on set guidelines, but I can't believe you'd get anything under 25 for second-degree. Surely she won't do the full 18 unless she's a troublemaker in the joint.

I'd figure something called Duke Regional would be in Greensboro.
