Eastpointe purse-snatch suspect is snagged, dragged by own car

BY BILL LAITNER • FREE PRESS STAFF WRITER • August 7, 2009

Police said a man chased by a squad car after he’d snatched a woman’s purse in Eastpointe was dragged by his own car when he tried to leap from the vehicle but got his right leg tangled in the seat belt.

Lawrence Neal, 45, of Detroit was driving a 1995 Eagle Vision at 9:15 p.m. Thursday that dragged him several hundred feet — breaking his leg, bumping his head on trees, and causing multiple scrapes and cuts — before the car stopped on a front lawn, Eastpointe police said.

Neal was being held today at Macomb County Jail after failing to post 10% cash surety of a $200,000 bond, set by Eastpointe District Judge Carl Gerds. He was charged with unarmed robbery, fleeing and eluding, and 3rd-degree resisting and obstructing police in the chase that began at a party store on 9 Mile, said Eastpointe Lt. Leo Borowsky.

This kinda reminds me of the episode of The Twilight Zone where a guy's car constantly honks its horn and eventually stalks its owner because he killed a guy.

Wasn't this part of the Upper Class Twit of the Year skit on Monty Python?
