Two sons of Top Fuel racer Doug Herbert were killed in an automobile wreck in Lake Norman.

Jon, 17, and James, 12, died when their Mazda3 collided with another vehicle, according to a spokeswoman for Doug Herbert Racing. Witnesses said the second vehicle was a Hummer and that the two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision.

The Charlotte Observer site has an updated version of the story with pictures of the cars. Pretty awful looking

Heartbreaking. The outstanding NHRA community can hopefully provide some solace. But I just can't imagine...

Just a terrible loss for any father. My best goes out to the Herberts.

As a father, I can't even imagine what he's going through. Just a terrible, terrible tragedy. Prayers and white light to the family...
