Finebaum is the same way: Louder and more obnoxious.

    Don't like Doyel's writing.
It seems like a desperate attempt to draw attention to himself.
But that doesn't mean it's not effective.
Every time the guy does something like this it's discussed for pages on spj.com.
The guy gets under people's skin. Like it or not, that's part of the job.

Not really. A columnist is supposed to elicit reactions with what he or she writes, not the way they go about it.

We don't take up bandwidth here with a lot of banter about what Doyel says.....we do so by talking about his convincing portrayal of an arrogant douche, which he may well be in real life, who knows?

Do you honestly believe what we discuss on SJ is anywhere close to what the readers outside the business think?

This is probably about the fourth column I've ever read of his. He's completely in love with himself, he's arrogant and he's mean. I don't have time for people like that, and it's too bad that I'm in the minority. This world would be a better place if evolution took out assholes, but girls seem interested in procreating with them.

So, in conclusion, I blame women.

Again, a lot of people overlook the idea that he wants to be disliked. BYH makes a great parallel between what Doyel does as a writer and sports talk radio. It's more successful to be widely disliked than to be reasonably followed for reasonable opinions.

Meyer's most recent dismissals of this are very firm, but it would be great fun to follow up on these two if somehow he wound up at Notre Dame after this season. Unlikely, but fun.

Gregg, if that's you, congrats. You're starting to write the truth. Keep working hard and someday you'll be at the adult columnists table.
