Pulled over for a traffic violation or equipment repair order or warning requires I'd, a drivers license, registration etc. even if nothing is done. Stopping a pedestrian requires no ID check. And if she didn't have an ID what were they goi g to do. This isn't a police state where papers are required, unless you're a nazi lover like Cruz

What's the need to run a background check on someone walking in the street?

Too many damn laws in this country if walking in your neighborhood's street is a fucking misdemeanor.

They can't stop people randomly and demand papers. ... Indeed, that would be a violation of your rights.

That is not what happened. In this case, they witnessed her committing a misdemeanor infraction. That constitutes the reasonable suspicion they needed to ask her to identify herself. She gave them the opening. And they took advantage of it. It is what cops do. They do it to white people, too. All the time.

They did a check to see if there were any outstanding warrants. Again, it is what cops do. Give them an opening, and they will take it.

She was walking in the damn street. First-graders know you can get a jaywalking ticket for walking in the street.

Of course, you would have thought they would have realized that she bought her Boston hoodie while she was taking a week-long seminar at Harvard.
