If these kids were not arrested for underage drinking by the police, you cannot go by he-said-she-said, which it sounds like what this was.

Plus, it was off of school grounds. They come to school property after drinking? Bust their asses. But you never write rules you are not 100 percent sure you can enforce, and allegedly drinking at a party is something that exceeds the bounds of a school's discipline, IMHO.

    Thanks.

Luongo said he did not know of the incident involving McCabe’s son. But he emphasized that the district takes bullying very seriously. A high school girl who pantsed a boy this year received a suspension and Saturday detentions, and was removed from activities – measures that were also levied in Schwalb’s case, he said.

What the fuck does this woman want? That's punishment is just fine for this action.

the article says pantsed, but shouldn't it be depantsed?

don't know this lady, but Luongo is a good guy. i'm not saying who is right in this case, but he is a reasonable guy and not a power-hungry type. he's been a wrestling ref for a long time and also was an administrator and another school before going to Hasbrouck Heights.

You all do realize that in the issue with the 4-year-old, you aren't teaching him anything. When kids are four, parents determine how long or short their hair is.

So if your have a dress code/hair code that extends to 4-year-olds, you are dealing directly with the parents. They are the ones who want him with long hair. It's not some shaggy-haired 15-year-old.

So it's not teaching a kid a lesson. It's not parents jumping in and calling lawyers. At that age, your issue is directly with the parents, not the kid.

    Now, please resume arguing.

In some cultures, though, long hair or facial hair or hats on your head or whatever is extremely important.

So if the parents want to push for their rights and the kids' rights, it's America, right?

All those black kids sitting at lunch counters in the 50s and 60s where they clearly weren't welcome were a pain and a disturbance and a nuisance, too.

Not like they didn't have their own places to eat, you know.

Do I win something? How do you know how important this is the the family fighting it? Should they be denied the right to challenge it?

Hey, if it means that much to them, let them knock themselves out.

In this kids case, I don't know why the parents are being bent on their kid having long hair, but it seems the school dress code is kind of anal and I generally side with people who like to stick it to anal administrators.

It's interesting that the same people who would argue for lesser government generally side with the powers-that-be that want to regulate uniformity and assimilation.
