I didn't see anything about it here. If I missed it, apologies. Apparently Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland may have asked Dez Bryant if his mother is a whore, when he got one-on-one time to question him at the combine.

Now it is out and creating quite a stir. Ireland has apologized.

I am a bit blown away. If Bryant had popped him in the face (as I think is justified), he'd have gotten an even worse reputation than the one he was trying to disprove in the interviews with teams. If he sits there and doesn't react to that kind of disrespectful treatment, what does it prove?

I can't imagine what Ireland was hoping for. It's not about the player's character. And presumably when you interview a guy, it is with the possibility that you might draft him. And if you are going to draft a player, you are trying to establish a relationship with him. How do you draft a guy and expect him to enter the relationship on a positive tone, after that?

The Dez Bryants of the world do not maintain a monopoly on stupidity.

He didn't ask if she was a whore. He asked if she was a prostitute. There's a difference.

ESPN had this the day after draft day. Didn't say it was the Dolphins though just said " a GM of a team".

    Just to play along...

If my parents were college professors, what are the chances that I assualt a woman in the bathroom, do drugs or carry a gun into a NYC club?

If my single parent (no dad) was a crack addict and a prostitute, what are the chances that I assualt a woman in the bathroom, do drugs or carry a gun into a NYC club?

The NFL is trying to become a moral league, and if the league suspends players for violating their conduct code, this could be a factor.

    But...

Don't you think the team knew this answer before they asked the player in person?

    Fair enough.

And I still think Bryant would have been justified if he popped him in the face -- although unfortunately he was sitting in the position of having to kiss Ireland's ass if he wanted to play in the NFL.

    There is?

It seems to me a whore, generally speaking, is someone who has sex for money.

Sounds like he followed Dalton's advice about what to do if someone calls your mother a whore. Be nice. Just...be nice.

Should have used "escort" . does not sound as harsh.

I am stunned that there is even a question if Ireland was appropriate.

I would have asked him if Mike Gundy was a man.
