Does this look like Subway to you?

Got a few interns this week.

Two high-schoolers that are getting paid from federal stimulus funds. As if having our department being re-staffed with high school help isn't bad enough, one of them has two lip rings.

    What is this Subway?

Side note: We do have a dress code. Apparently it does not apply to the interns.
Other side note: I am a curmudgeon.

Hopefully the rings are opposing lips.

Link them, and the intern will shut up.

They don't talk much. That's a nice thing.

Also, their presence means I'm no longer the youngest one in the office.

Why wouldn't a dress code apply to interns?

Because we don't want to damage their fragile self-esteem. They will also be given trophies at the end of the summer.

They try just as hard as interns in industries that aren't dying!

If they're unpaid, I can see the logic that you can't make them buy clothes for an internship and essentially charge them (more) to work for you.

    Otherwise, I got nothing.

    I'm surprised interns haven't unionized. :)

All I know is the state department got stimulus funds to work 20-30 hours a week somewhere and they ended up here because they want to go into journalism. I still have no idea why one of them would think its acceptable to wear nose rings to work. Regardless of the dress code.

Management has to review office policies with them, including dress code.

I think management was laid off in the last round of cuts. That's half snark, half truth. They really let go of all the department managers the last round of cuts.

And now the interns are doing those jobs?
