    The Lincoln Journal Star is seeking a creative and innovative Digital Sports Editor. This position is on our fast-paced online newsroom desk and is focused on updating and maintaining various parts of JournalStar.com and HuskerExtra.com, as well as growing our digital audience and engaging with readers via social media. This editor will build article pages, edit content (both text and video), write headlines and cutlines and publish breaking news to the home page. The duties include occasional supervisory editing and copy desk editing and other duties as assigned.

    This position reports to and works in close contact with the Sports Editor to keep a big picture view of the sports department, including monitoring of the daily sports budget, photo assignments and story ideas for various beats.

    The work schedule for this position involves afternoon and evening hours generally but varies as needed.

    The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in journalism, at least 2-5 years’ experience with copy editing and/or online experience. Must be able to edit stories, cutlines and other content for completeness, clarity, tone and legal liability. Must be comfortable making decisions, sometimes on less than complete information as stories develop. Must enjoy enhancing and improving the work of others through editing and presentation. This position is well suited to editors who can work quickly, handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment and communicate quickly and clearly to peers, reporters and other editors. The ideal candidate must be comfortable with computer work and interested in learning new programs in the rapidly changing online world.

    Qualifications


    Must have a degree in journalism or equivalent combination of experience and education
    Previous experience on a daily newspaper a plus
    Strong written and verbal communication skills
    Ability to work flexible schedule which will include nights, weekends and holidays
    Excellent organizational skills
    Demonstrated skill and ability with Multi-media platforms
    Demonstrated news writing and reporting ability
    Ability to meet deadlines and work within a fast paced environment
    Work within a team environment
