    There was a curious dynamic between Rowan and Martin, and it was the same one as with the Smothers Brothers.

    On stage, Dick Smothers was the straight guy; Tommy Smothers was the goofy wisecracker. But in real life, Tommy Smothers was the serious one, the deal-maker and the brains of the operation.

    On stage, Dan Rowan was the straight guy, and Dick Martin was the goof. Again, it was the opposite in reality. Dick Martin took his business very, very seriously.

    RIP.
