Derby credentials for the wife?

If this happened, shame on Reilly for attempting it and shame on Churchill Downs for allowing it.

If, however, the wife turns out to be a horse racing expert who'd embarrass Andrew Beyer, I'd be more inclined to swallow my distaste.

I'd lay rather heavily against that prospect . . .

The way the auto racing beat ranks have been hit lately, I disagree. Gonna be much worse than, say, four years ago when Danica-mania began.

As for the wife credentials...shee-it, my wife wouldn't want to go to the Derby, Augusta or anything else. She is far more disinterested in sports after seeing me yo-yo through the biz over the years.

Wife went with me once when I covered the Derby, but I bought her a ticket (though it was many years ago, and perhaps it was comped, I can't recall). She loved spending the day people watching ... doubt she bet $2 the entire card.

I think bringing your kid(s) to the press box is alright if it is done the right way.

Wifes, friends and girlfriends, not a good idea.

The one time . . . I never DREAMED of taking her upstairs. She had her midlevel box seat, and was as happy as could be.

I brought my infant daughter early to a college football game once to show her off to friends -- and to get her pic taken on the field. But we didn't stay (I worked the office that day) ...

Describe "the right way" with a kid who is told to stay quiet for 2-3 hours.

Don't bring a kid who can't stay quiet for 2-3 hours, among other things.

  12. Good. Your slut of the week has no business at a business function, regardless of what a man who you respected did in previous times.
