David Banner turned into the Hulk over less.

First off, it's the "Same Old Lang Syne" and it's musical genius.

Darlene Love's "All Alone on Christmas"

The tune is upbeat, but the lyrics are damn depressing. That in turn makes it a great song.

I live away from all of my family, so that one gets to me a little. But Christmas in Dixie always makes me feel better.

Can't find it on YouTube, but Marvelous 3's "Merry Christmas doesn't start very happily IIRC:

Brother comes home after school every day
to a stepdad who beats him and a mother who prays
that he'll grow up to be just like his brother Jay
and not f---ed up like his old man.

Sister's got lots of dreams of her own
as she sits by a mountain of pills by the phone,
and sooner or later, the kids will come home
to a stripper whose danced all she can.

Merry Christmas to me.
Merry Christmas to you.
At the end of the day, when there's nothing to say,
merry Christmas from me to you.

"Shoes" is far and away the winner. The runner-up is that dreary Kenny Rogers' "Mary Did You Know." The radio goes off at the first recognition of either.

Here's what I don't get about the Fogelberg song: She married her an architect, who kept her warm and safe and dry. Dry. Is that a big priority for getting married? "Well, I hate him/her, but at least I'm dry."

For non-depressing holiday tunes, here's Mike Vaccaro's annual offering:

After reading the first part of the thread, I guess it's a good thing no one has made a Christmas in Gitmo song yet. As for Same Old Lang Syne, it is a bit of a downer, especially for me. For many years, I had a same-time-next-year relationship with my college love, who was in med school while I worked in other cities. So that song always got to me. I'll offer up "Blue Christmas," by Elvis, covered by many others.
