Amazing that we haven't had an update or new thread on Rodman's latest trip for a game against the North Korean All-Stars. It might be the most awkwardly irrelevant and entertaining matchup since Gilligan took on the Globetrotters.

The highlights have included Rodman's meltdown during a CNN interview (which includes every other member of Team Rodman looking like they're wondering what the hell they've gotten themselves into):

Rodman singing "Happy Birthday" to Kim Jong Un (news package that includes some game footage):

And former Knick Charles Smith being the conflicted voice of reason on the trip. This whole thing has been bizarre. Can't wait for some of the Team Rodman guys to get back home and start doing interviews about this fiasco.

A better 5-on-5 would be Rodman's team vs. the 5 starving dogs that (allegedly) tore apart Kim Jong Un's uncle

I kind of feel sorry for Rodman's team. I think some, like Smith, might have legitimately thought this could be a positive cultural exchange and were caught off guard by how batshit crazy Rodman has become. Once they realized it, all they can really do is ride it out and try to make it home without incident. In the CNN interview, they all look like a bit queasy, like they're staring at a firing squad just off camera.
I read that Smith has done this sort of thing in other countries, so it seems likely he viewed as just another overseas trip.
For others, it might have been a money grab or just a chance to see a part of the world few outsiders get to see. Going to North Korea would be an uneasy experience, to say the least, but it would also be a unique adventure.

Yeah, it's not like there were any clues before this. Completely caught by surprise they must be...

"While we support international goodwill and diplomacy in instances deemed appropriate by our Board of Directors, it is important to clarify that the trip to North Korea led by Dennis Rodman and others was not sanctioned by the NBRPA and is not supported by our organization in any way," said NBRPA Chairman of the Board Otis Birdsong, a four-time NBA All-Star. "Under the right circumstances basketball can serve as a bridge to bring communities together, but these are not those circumstances. Standing alongside our partners at the NBA, we do not condone the basketball activities to be conducted in North Korea this week."

Give him 48 hours to get out of NK, or else revoke his passport. If you love Jong Un so much, go be his cabin boy. I am sure he'll treat you just like a member of the family.
