This will be the first foreign car we've owned. There's a reason I'm choosing a Toyota or Honda this time -- safety and reliability.

What did you have before, and why did you decide to switch to a foreign (car) maker?

We now have a 2002 Chrysler Sebring with 100K. In my opinion, it's neither safe enough, nor reliable enough to put my child in.

What have we owned? I drive a Chevrolet P/U. My last was a GMC P/U. We've owned an Oldsmobile and a Lumina we had when we got married. Other than my trucks, the cars have fallen apart by 100K.

From what I've read, Luminas are notorious for crapping out before 100K.

I drive a Dodge Caliber right now, kind of a sedan/SUV-type car, but not as high of center of gravity, so it's pretty safe.
I think a car like a Ford Focus, for example, would also be a pretty good family car as well.

I'm pretty sure the Focus is smaller than the two T_B_F's looking at.

And yes, Shockey, fords do suck.

Car seat fits fin in the Accord, so I'm guessing it'll fit fine in the Camry, too.

We're probably going through a much bigger city early Saturday morning. We'll hit those, too, and see if we can find a better deal there.

Thanks for the input. And please, keep it coming. It's really helping Mrs. tbf and I.

I agree. I was just being fair to all makes. (Except foreign cars.)

I'm not trying to be a dick on purpose, it's just my opinion.

I go by Consumer Reports reviews. Honda Accords are a really good bet. Toyota Camrys have been slipping in reliability and affordability. Of the 2007 models, Hondas are getting better reviews than the Toyotas.
If you must go domestic, look at Ford Fusions and Mercury Milans. They have the best rating from CR, but they are not near as good as Accord.
The Scion cTs get a good nod as do some of the Subaru models. But the Subarus are a little pricey. Sporty looking, but pricey.
And from what I can tell, stay away from Volkswagen and pretty much anything made by General Motors. Bad news. Baaaad!
