My godson died very slowly and painfully of kidney failure this past November at the age of 27. He needed a kidney because he was an extremely brittle diabetic but he couldn't have one because his diabetes meant he was frequently nauseous and would not be able to keep the anti-rejection meds down. His mother (my best friend) who was trained as a nurse agreed with the doctors' decision. Donated organs are too rare and precious not to go to those who have the best chance of surviving.
