If done correctly, you don't even notice eight minutes on a good Metallica song. Sadly, they died (in my eyes) after the Black Album. But some of the early stuff, Master of Puppets, Disposable Heroes, Sanitarium, I still bring to the gym.

    So was Dirt Napster.

Metallica can't hold a candle to SLAYER!

  3. I heard they were considering Shark Sandwich, but it was already taken.

Track listing on band's official Web site:

    That Was Just Your Life
    The End Of The Line
    Broken, Beat & Scarred
    The Day That Never Comes
    All Nightmare Long
    Cyanide
    The Unforgiven III
    The Judas Kiss
    Suicide & Redemption
    My Apocalypse

Wow. 12-year-old metal fans, rejoice. With Rick Rubin as producer, apparently they were influenced to try to turn into a wannabe 40-something Slayer.

And "The Unforgiven III"? Just stop it.

EDIT: Watching the youtube videos of "The New Song" and "The other new song" from two years ago . . . those still don't sound too bad. But we shall see how they sound on CD.

Has any band, ever, fallen farther?

That answer starts with the Rolling Stones and Aerosmith, who went from being dangerous hard rockers to being old men who put out music for 12-year-old girls.

Metallica at least TRIES to do something good, and they at least TRY to innovate and do something different than what is on the pop charts, and different from established expectations. They lost their mojo, but they didn't voluntarily discard it.

And they're still amazing live. No half-speed renditions from these guys.

I'll give you Aerosmith, though they really never did anything for me.

The Stones got old, but at least they suck because they got old.

And if I had a choice to see either one live tomorrow for the same coin, I'd go see the Stones.

What? It'll probably be one of the better songs on the album. Every band is allowed one stinkfest. That was St. Anger. So I'm hoping this one will be better.
