Yes, "Death Magnetic" is the name of the new Metallica album.

Sigh. Like a bunch of 40-somethings trying to be cool. I'll pick it up, and there will likely be a song or two I dig. And you bet I'll see the concert this fall.

But "death magnetic"? Honestly, at least ACT like you still care about what goes on in the studio.

    From WIKI:
Did Trujillo not play on St. Anger?

Bob Rock played bass on St. Anger. That's what kept him too busy to properly mix Lars' drums.

I love Metallica, have most of their albums, but St. Anger SUCKED. This new one hopefully will go back to what Metallica was.

    Great thread title, BTW. :D

Eight-minute songs!?! When did Metallica become a jam band?

Methinks you need to check out Master Of Puppets. I doubt there's a song under four minutes on that entire album. Several clock in over six minutes.

Yeah, but not eight minutes. That's Phish-esque.

Three songs on Master Of Puppets weigh in at over eight minutes (with NO songs under five minutes). Two songs on ... And Justice For All are over nine minutes (again ... no songs under five minutes). One song on Ride The Lightning is over eight, with four more over five minutes.

If anything, long songs are a return to form for Metallica.

Most of those songs have 2 minute guitar solos. Hopefully it is a return to form.
