Austin, girls first, boys second. Sixth Street. If you have Sixth Street and a state tournament, you should never bitch.

The AP bureau here didn't even know there was a state tournament. And it was in the same fucking city the bureau is.

State week in the spring is living hell on those who cover it, with golf, tennis and track going on. The nights on sixth street, though? Those are fucking legendary, especially at the Molotov.

Only problem is the UIL boys' tournament often collides with SXSW, making finding a hotel room anywhere south of Temple next to impossible. If you can book in time, though, you're golden.

If you're just into beer and not the music scene, Sixth Street's kind of meh.

Read 'Gola's post again and re-racking slightly. That week in May in Austin is just as wacky as the two weeks in March.

I agree. Sixth street is overrated to some degree. I like the Mean Eyed Cat and the far reaching sixth street bars the best.

Of course, if you aren't from Austin and you get a chance to hang with the UT ladies on a random night, it can get interesting.

In Florida, the FHSAA will update the playoff brackets pretty quick after the games, beginning around 9:30 and by 11 most of it is updated except a few stragglers. As for the state tournament, the site provides live scoring during the semis and finals for both boys and girls. AP will also have someone write 6 to 8 inches on the championship games.

When you have an AP bureau that is staffed in such a way that everyone in the office is clueless about sports, that's ridiculous.

Fourth Street is really where's it's at these days ... once you get older.

actually, Texas Showdown was where it's at ... fuck whoever forced that place to close down.

I had to give them the news on the first day of the girls tournament when they called asking why there weren't any games on their schedule. They at least got a photog there for championship day.

Ohio is into the regional round for girls basketball right now, but the state association's Web site is only updated part way through the sectional round. That was held two weeks ago.
Oh, yeah. We just had the state wrestling tournament over the weekend (March 5-7). The state association posted the individual results (matches for first through seventh) for all three divisions, but didn't post the team scores until Tuesday.
